The Electoral Commission has confirmed that it is fully prepared for the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3.

Fred Tetteh, Director of Research at the Commission, said all logistics and personnel arrangements have been completed ahead of the polls.

“In terms of preparation, the Commission is ready. Everything is set for the poll. We are talking about logistics, personnel; yes, we are ready. The logistics and all arrangements have been made regarding the packing of materials, ballot boxes, and voting screens for the 113 polling stations where the elections will be held,” Mr. Tetteh said on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, March 2.

The Commission also noted that close to 50,000 voters are registered in the constituency, with the exact figure standing at 49,966. Voting will begin at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress mounted a major final rally in support of its candidate, Baba Jamal, on Sunday March 1. Campaign Manager Alhaji Baba Nuhu Khalid emphasised the importance of mobilising supporters for the by-election, noting that turnout in such polls is often low.

“Obviously we are not leaving any stone unturned because normally in the by-elections the turnouts are normally low. So we just have to whip up the interest so that people will come out in their numbers to vote. That is why we take the by-election very seriously,” he said on the Channel One Newsroom on Sunday.

Recent surveys project also strong showing for the NDC in the constituency. A poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics between February 28 and March 1 indicates that Baba Jamal could secure 75 percent of the votes, potentially outperforming the party’s 2024 parliamentary results in the area.

The NPP candidate, Baba Ali, is projected to win 21 percent, while independent candidate Umar Sanda Muhammed could secure 3 percent.
