The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition says the government will disclose how much has been generated from the GH₵1 fuel levy and how the funds have been utilised by the end of March.

Spokesperson and Head of Communications at the Ministry, Richmond Rockson, said details on accruals from the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) will be made public in line with transparency requirements under the law.

He made the remarks on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, March 18, in response to questions about the total amount raised since the levy was introduced.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance is responsible for providing the figures, but stressed that the government remains committed to openness.

“That will be something that the Ministry of Finance will provide. Let me add that the government has said it will be very transparent in the usage of the levy, and by the end of this month, per the Act, government is supposed to provide data on how much has been accrued and how it has been used,” he said.

He assured Ghanaians that the issue would not be avoided, emphasising that accountability remains a priority.

“Be rest assured that it is not a conversation that the government will run away from. In the energy sector, there are no shortcuts,” he added.

His comments come amid calls by the Minority in Parliament for the scrapping of the GH₵1 levy on petroleum products, arguing that it has outlived its purpose and is placing an additional burden on consumers.
