The Northern Regional Police Command and renowned artist, Ibrahim Mahama, have been invited by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh-Yohuno, as part of ongoing investigations into an alleged assault incident.
This was revealed by the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, on Wednesday, March 25.
Ibrahim Mahama, the founder of the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art and Red Clay Studio in Tamale, was allegedly assaulted on Saturday, March 21, by a group believed to be members of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, popularly known as “Black Maria.”
The incident reportedly left the artist with dental injuries, including the loss of a tooth, while his uncle, who was driving at the time, also sustained injuries.
According to the Regional Minister, the IGP has taken up the matter.
“As I talk to you, the matter is now before the IGP. Ibrahim Mahama and the Regional Police Commander ought to be in Accra for IGP to listen to both sides and take a decision of the matter,” he said.
The Minister further pledged his commitment to ensuring justice is served on the matter.
