President John Dramani Mahama has called for peace in the Middle East, urging global leaders to prioritise dialogue and bring an end to the ongoing conflicts in the region.

Speaking during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Black Star Square, he stressed the urgent need to protect innocent lives and restore stability.

He noted that achieving lasting peace in the Middle East remains critical to global security and development.

“Our thoughts are with those who are impacted by the continued conflict in the Middle East. Innocent lives including women and children are being lost, families displaced and communities shattered.

“On this solemn occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I invite all of us to offer prayers for peace in the Middle East. May Allah touch President Trump, Netanyahu, Mojtaba Khamenei so that this war will come to an end,” he said.

He also called for stronger collaboration to combat violent extremism, warning that insecurity in one part of the world can have wider global consequences.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, urged government to tackle illegal mining.

“The Holy Qu’ran calls on all of us to abandon destructions and corruption that seek to destroy the gift of Allah given to us ,” he stressed.

He also called on government to address the rising abuse of drugs, which he said is derailing the lives of many young people in the country.

“Your Excellency, the rising trend of drug abuse particularly with which the Muslim community is affected is a matter of concern. Our youth are being destroyed through drug business and addiction.

“We are losing our young people to drugs. It is a painful reality. Your Excellency, Chief Imam says if there is anything you can do together with him, he is prepared to join you,” he said.
