The Concerned Youth of Nzema have petitioned the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, over what they describe as the unlawful entry of some youth from the Salman community into the operational premises of Adamus Resources Limited.
According to the group, the alleged trespass disrupted operations at the mining site and posed a threat to peace and security in the area.
In a statement signed by the President of the Concerned Youth of Nzema, Jonas Kabutey, and presented at a news conference at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, the group condemned the action.
“Trespassing on the company’s property, disrupting operations or engaging in any activity that threatens the peace and security are unlawful and unacceptable and do not represent the values and principles of the youth and the good people of Nzema,” the statement said.
Mr Kabutey noted that the actions of the youth not only violated the law but also risked undermining jobs, investments and development initiatives that benefit the wider Nzema community.
He stressed that violence, intimidation and unlawful entry could not be justified under any circumstances, urging the youth and community members to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law.
“While we acknowledge that there may be concerns relating to employment, compensation or community-company relations, we strongly believe that dialogue and lawful engagement remain the only appropriate channels for resolving grievances,” he said.
Mr Kabutey further expressed concern that efforts by stakeholders to pursue peaceful engagement aimed at securing decent and sustainable employment opportunities for the youth of Nzemaland were being undermined by what he described as “individual and parochial interests.”
As part of efforts to restore calm, the group called on the youth involved in the incident to cooperate with the authorities and refrain from any further unlawful actions.
They also appealed to the management of Adamus Resources Limited to continue engaging community leaders through constructive dialogue to address concerns and strengthen relations with the host communities.
Mr Kabutey assured the security agencies of the group’s full cooperation in maintaining peace and order in the area.
