A vibrant celebration of Ghanaian heritage is underway at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, as the 2026 ‘Back to Your Village’ Food Festival draws growing crowds eager to reconnect with tradition through food, music, and storytelling.

Patrons are streaming into the venue—some lining up for freshly prepared indigenous meals, while others watch live cooking demonstrations in an atmosphere that blends nostalgia with cultural pride.

The festival features a rich array of Ghanaian cuisine, including banku with okro stew, fufu with light soup, aprapransa with crabs, tuo zaafi, and angwamo served with eggs, pepper, beef, or sardines.

Running through Sunday, March 29, the two-day festival goes beyond a typical food fair. It has been designed as a full cultural experience, bringing together community, tradition, and cuisine in a lively, immersive setting.

A standout feature is the recreation of a traditional Ghanaian village. Visitors can explore various ethnic “villages,” each offering live drumming, traditional music, and energetic dance performances that celebrate the uniqueness of Ghana’s diverse communities.

The experience is interactive, with designated dining areas in each village where patrons can sit and enjoy meals in settings that mirror authentic communal living. For many, it is a nostalgic journey into Ghana’s past, where food, family, and culture are deeply intertwined.

Adding to the authenticity, vendors are selling traditional cookware such as grinding stones and earthenware bowls, evoking memories of age-old cooking practices and shared family experiences.

Organisers say the festival, which runs daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., also serves as a response to growing Western influence on local diets and lifestyles. It aims to inspire renewed appreciation for Ghanaian food and cultural identity, particularly among younger generations.

Powered by Channel One TV, with support from Citi FM, the festival is sponsored by Ecobank, Gino, Didi Shito, Munchee Biscuits, the National Petroleum Authority, and Everpack.
