The Ghana Police Service has arrested 15 suspected drug peddlers in coordinated operations in Tamale and Savelugu, as part of a crackdown on narcotics in the region.

The raids were carried out by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team, also known as “Red Maria,” on the night of March 17 and early hours of March 18.

Police said the operation, led by Superintendent John Danso and ASP Rashid Jeremiah, involved 35 personnel.

According to a police situational report, the team first conducted an exercise at Choggu in Tamale, where nine suspects were arrested in possession of suspected narcotic substances.

Officers then moved to Savelugu at about 5 a.m., where six additional suspects were apprehended.

All 15 suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations, police said.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the police to clamp down on drug trafficking and related activities in the Northern Region.
