The Vocational and Technical Department of St. Monica’s College of Education has organised a two-day practical workshop to train teachers in crafting bridal fans as part of efforts to promote vocational creativity and self-reliance.

Held under the theme “Promoting Vocational Creativity for Sustainable Development,” the workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills that can support entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing participants, a lecturer in the Vocational and Technical (VOTEC) Department, Dr Peace Akosua Cheiko, said the programme was designed to provide teachers with practical skills, innovative techniques, and creative approaches to vocational training.

She emphasised that the initiative also reinforces the importance of sustainability and entrepreneurship in education.

“The idea is that since we are training them to go out there to become teachers, they need to have something else to work on so that they will not depend solely on their salary,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Vocational and Technical Department, Veronica Akwaah, appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders to support the department by expanding its infrastructure and providing essential vocational equipment.

She specifically called for the provision of industrial and hand sewing machines to help equip learners with the practical skills needed for vocational training.
