Two people have been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash in Tema on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The helicopter reportedly crashed at Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community One, near the city’s central business district.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS) are at the scene, working to recover the bodies from the wreckage.
Updates from the scene indicate that police and fire officers have retrieved two charred bodies from the wreckage.
In a statement, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed that the aircraft involved in the incident was a microlight with registration number 9G-ADV.
According to the Authority, the aircraft had been flying from Ho to Accra and was expected to arrive at about 1520 Z.
The GCAA added that the last radio contact with the aircraft was recorded at 1418 Z.
The aviation authority further confirmed that there were two persons on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Authorities are expected to commence investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
