Why you can’t miss the 2026 Back to Your Village Food Festival

If there is one event that promises to reconnect you to the soul of Ghana, it is the 2026 ‘Back to Your Village’ Food Festival—an experience organisers insist you simply cannot afford to miss.

Set to return bigger and richer on March 28-29 at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, this year’s festival goes far beyond a celebration of food.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, March 23, 2026, Managing Director of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Samuel Attah-Mensah, revealed that the event is designed as a full cultural immersion—where cuisine becomes the gateway to something deeper.

“We are just adding the culinary experience, connecting Ghanaians with music, dance forms, storytelling… it is more like your typical festival, but you have the food as the anchor,” he explained.

What makes this festival truly unmissable is its bold attempt to recreate the Ghanaian village in its most authentic form. Imagine walking into distinct ethnic “villages,” each alive with its own rhythm, flavour, and identity. From the pulsating beats of a Ga band to the captivating performance of a Borborbor group, every space tells a story.

“We want to depict the village setting… so you will have a Ga band, Borborbor group, and others,” Atta-Mensah said.

It’s not just about watching—it’s about belonging. Each village will have its own clearly defined dining area, allowing patrons to buy traditional meals and enjoy them right where that culture lives and breathes.

“All the villages are clearly demarcated with their own eating space, where patrons can buy the food, sit and eat in a particular village,” he noted.

And the authenticity does not stop at food and performance. The festival grounds will also feature vendors selling traditional cookware—grinding stones, earthenware bowls, and more—bringing back memories of a time when cooking was as cultural as it was communal.

“We are arranging with some people who will sell traditional cookware, grinding stones, earthenware bowls, and others,” he added.

Starting from 10 a.m. to 6pm each day, the event is carefully crafted not just as leisure, but as a cultural reawakening. According to Attah-Mensah, it is also a deliberate pushback against the growing dominance of Western food culture.

“We have been hoodwinked by the western media to give a sense of superiority to western food… but we realised that it is a ‘419’ scam. So we decided to go back to our village,” he said.

While food festivals are not new, this one stands apart for a simple reason: it brings people back to the “original taste” of their upbringing—something many have lost touch with.

With its rich blend of tradition, storytelling, music, and opportunity, the 2026 ‘Back to Your Village’ Food Festival is more than an event—it is an invitation to rediscover who you are.

The Back To Your Village Food Festival 2026 is powered by Channel One TV with support from Citi FM. And it’s proudly sponsored by Ecobank, Gino, Didi Shito, Munchee Biscuits, and Everpack.
