Adansi residents block Kumasi–Accra Highway over bad road conditions

Traffic has ground to a halt on the Kumasi–Accra Highway after residents at the Adansi-47 stretch blocked the road in protest over its deteriorating condition.

The residents cite frequent pedestrian knockdowns, excessive dust, and rising safety risks as reasons for the action, insisting the situation has become intolerable.

The blockade has stranded travellers in both directions, forcing some to seek alternative routes.

A traveller who witnessed the incident told Citi News that residents are refusing to clear the road until authorities take action.

“We were coming from Kumasi when we got to the Adansi area, specifically Adansi Praso, and the villagers had blocked the road. No vehicle is passing in both directions.

“When we spoke to one of the townsfolk, he said they are upset with the government because they were promised the road would be fixed,” she said.

She added that concerns over health risks and fatalities linked to the dusty road have intensified tensions.

“They say the road has not been fixed for a long time, and it is very dusty. Children are suffering, there are accidents, and other issues. But what really triggered them was the death of a child recently.

“When the child was taken to the hospital, they said the lungs and system were filled with dust. So they are not allowing any vehicle to pass,” she added.
