The Adjen Kotoku onion market has reopened for trading after being temporarily closure following a violent incident that left several traders injured.
A visit by Citi News to the market on Wednesday, April 8 confirmed the reopening.
The market was initially closed after armed men, allegedly from a rival faction, stormed the area in an attempt to take control of the facility. The attack disrupted trading activities at one of the country’s key onion distribution hubs and heightened security concerns among traders.
Several traders sustained injuries during the incident and sparked tension within the market community. The disruption also raised fresh concerns over the management and security of the facility, with some accounts linking the incident to alleged political interference.
In response to the violence, the Police Service has arrested a suspect, identified as Inusah Seidu, who was tracked and picked up at a hideout.
A specialised intelligence team was deployed on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the incident, restore order, and prevent further clashes.
Following security interventions, authorities have since reopened the market, allowing trading activities to resume.
