The Ghana National Gas Company has announced the full resumption of operations following a temporary emergency shutdown on April 15, 2026, assuring the public that its processing plant remains safe, stable, and fully operational.
According to management, the incident is completely unrelated to a previous shutdown recorded in August 2025, contrary to reports circulating in sections of the media.
The company has described such claims as misleading and an attempt to undermine the credibility of its engineers and technical team.
Explaining the sequence of events, Ghana Gas said a comprehensive risk assessment was immediately conducted in line with standard operating procedures after the shutdown. This, it noted, formed the basis for safely restoring operations without compromising system integrity.
The company further disclosed that it is currently processing about 120 million standard cubic feet of raw gas per day, ensuring continued support for the country’s energy supply needs.
Providing details on the cause of the disruption, management explained that the shutdown was triggered by a fault in the software controlling the fuel gas supply and burner management system.
It noted that such technical issues are not uncommon in complex industrial operations and are typically resolved through established engineering protocols.
Ghana Gas also clarified that its heat generation system remains structurally sound. The company described the system as a highly complex arrangement comprising fuel supply units, control panels, chambers, piping systems, and circulating pumps that regulate the heat-carrying petrotherm fluid.
Despite the temporary setback, management said the swift resolution of the fault highlights the competence and resilience of its technical and engineering teams.
The Director of Communication for Ghana Gas, Richard Kirk Mensah, who provided the update, dismissed suggestions linking the incident to the heterotherm fluid system, stressing that it has operated efficiently for several months without any recorded faults.
He further urged the public and stakeholders to rely on verified information, cautioning against speculation as the company continues to fulfil its mandate of ensuring reliable gas supply for national energy needs.
