The President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has hailed Ghana’s historic contribution to his country’s liberation struggle, describing it as pivotal to Zimbabwe’s independence.

Speaking at a State Banquet hosted in his honour by President John Dramani Mahama on April 1, Mnangagwa recalled how Ghana served as a key training ground for Zimbabwean freedom fighters.

“Most of my colleagues received training here in Ghana for the armed liberation of Zimbabwe. We are forever grateful to Ghana,” he said.

Mnangagwa is on a three-day State Visit to Ghana to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new areas of cooperation between the two countries.

He noted that the visit presents opportunities to deepen business-to-business engagement and expand economic collaboration.

In his remarks, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening relations with Zimbabwe, highlighting the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

The banquet also featured an exchange of symbolic gifts, with Mnangagwa receiving traditional Ghanaian fugu and kente, while presenting a gift in return to Mahama, underscoring the cultural bonds between the two countries.

The event reinforced both countries’ commitment to advancing cooperation in trade and development, building on a relationship rooted in shared history and mutual respect.
