Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu, has formally requested detailed information on the management of funds collected under the Energy Sector Levy, citing concerns over non-compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
In a request addressed to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition on Wednesday, April 29, he invoked provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) to demand transparency on revenues and expenditures linked to the levy.
The Tolon MP indicated that his request is part of Parliament’s oversight responsibility, particularly as members of the Energy Committee seek clarity on how public funds within the sector are being managed.
“I note that Section 3 of the Energy Sector Levies Act, 2025 states, ‘The Minister shall cause to be opened and maintained an account to be known as the Energy Sector Support Account into which shall be paid the moneys collected under the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy,” he said.
However, he noted that checks with Parliament show the required report has not been submitted since March 31 2026, raising concerns about compliance with the law.
Among the information he is seeking is the total amount/revenue realised from collections on account of the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 and a full list of the specific expenditures to which the revenues have been applied/utilised.
“I wish to receive this information in hard copy, delivered to my office. My address is Parliament House, Osu, 7th Floor, West Wing, Room 22 of the Job 600 Office Complex, for reference. I am also available through the mobile contact information displayed on the letterhead for any clarification you may need to facilitate the provision of this information,” he added.
