Madam Leticia, the mother of late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians and the government for the continued support following the passing of her son, describing the period as deeply difficult but consoling in the face of the honour being accorded him.

She made the remarks while speaking to journalists at Obomeng in the Eastern Region, on the sidelines of a solemn ceremony held for the unveiling of the Dr Edward Omane Boamah Artificial Intelligence Training Facility, a state-of-the-art centre aimed at advancing digital skills and bridging the technological gap among Ghanaian youth.

The facility, named in honour of the late Defence Minister, is expected to continue the legacy he was passionate about; equipping young people with future-ready skills in technology and governance.

In her remarks, Madam Leticia said, “I am glad. Since we lost him, a lot of people have been of help. They have honoured him. I thank you all. I thank the President. I know the Lord will console me because it is really tough.”

“He was my only son who was a medical doctor and ventured into politics because of the love for his country Ghana. Thank you Ghana for showing up and honouring my son,” she added.

The event drew a high-profile delegation led by President John Dramani Mahama, alongside traditional leaders, former cabinet colleagues, and key players in the technology sector.

Dr Omane Boamah’s death in August 6, 2025 sent shockwaves across the country after he was killed in a military helicopter crash while on official duty. The aircraft, a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter, was travelling from Accra to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining engagement when it went down in the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board.

Among the victims were senior government officials and military personnel, with authorities describing the incident as a national tragedy.

The unveiling of the AI training facility marks a significant step in preserving the legacy of Dr Omane Boamah, while contributing to Ghana’s growing focus on digital innovation and youth empowerment.
