President John Dramani Mahama is set to embark on an official visit to France today, Monday, April 6, 2026, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to a statement from the Presidency signed by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit will begin with President Mahama’s participation in the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, a high-level global gathering focused on health systems, food security, and coordinated responses to global health challenges.

The President, who is the founder and driving force behind the Accra Reset Initiative, will co-chair the summit’s high-level segment alongside President Macron on Tuesday.

The summit is expected to bring together world leaders, health ministers, and global health experts to deliberate on reforms to international health systems and adopt a political declaration aimed at strengthening global health cooperation.

President Mahama will also deliver two keynote addresses during the summit. The first will be at a session on global health architecture, co-chaired by President Macron and the Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

In his second address, he will outline Ghana’s position on global health security and highlight the country’s commitments in addressing emerging health challenges.

Following the summit, the President will proceed to Paris on Wednesday, April 8, for bilateral talks at the Élysée Palace with President Macron.

Discussions between the two leaders will focus on strengthening Ghana-France relations and expanding cooperation in key areas including health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.

As part of the visit, President Mahama is also expected to meet the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher, at the Senate House before the bilateral engagement at the Élysée Palace.

The statement affirmed that the President will return to Accra shortly after the engagements in Paris.
