The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the violent shooting at the Adjen Kotoku Onion Market on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, a specialised team of intelligence officers was deployed to investigate the incident and restore order.
On April 8, officers apprehended 40-year-old Inusah Seidu at his hideout in Adjen Kotoku after tracking his movements.
Authorities believe Seidu played a central role in the shooting and he remains in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
The violence reportedly occurred when armed men from a rival faction stormed the market, injuring several traders and raising security concerns. The market has since been closed.
The incident coincides with reports of trucks carrying onions to Ghana being blocked in Nigeria, thought to be retaliatory measures linked to an earlier dispute involving some Ghanaian traders.
