Manufacturers of sachet water packaging want government to provide relief to support the industry after deciding to keep prices unchanged despite rising production costs.

President of the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association, Ebbo Botwe, made the appeal at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday April, 8 2026.

“We hope that the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry will pass on this good message to His Excellency the President and so we’ll also get some reliefs as we may deserve”, he noted.

According to him, manufacturers had initially planned to review prices due to rising costs of polymers used in producing sachet water packaging materials.

“After listening to her and considering the fact that sachet water is a basic necessity for over 33 million Ghanaians, yes we are losing money if we go back to the old price but then for the fact that we love Ghana and Ghana must thrive, we decided to absorb the shock.”

Mr. Botwe noted that the industry has decided to maintain current prices for at least the next one to two months despite the financial pressure on manufacturers.

“Yes, we are going to lose money but then we are going to absorb the shock and keep the old price for at least a month or two and we expect that it will trickle down to the sachet water producers as well.”
