The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly referred to as Abronye DC, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over alleged remarks deemed controversial.
He was picked up on Monday, April 13, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and statements likely to incite fear and panic.
While official charges are yet to be announced, sources suggest the arrest may be linked to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court, an issue that has sparked concern within legal and governance circles.
Party officials, however, say they are still seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding his detention.
“Currently, our understanding is that he is at the Police CID Headquarters. We have sent the National Organiser to the place but we have not been able to ascertain the particular reason,” Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, told Joy News.
The development has generated mixed reactions, with supporters defending his outspoken style, while critics argue that his public statements often cross acceptable limits.
This is not the first time Abronye DC has been invited by law enforcement over his comments. He was previously detained in September 2025 on similar allegations.
The Police CID is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue, while the NPP regional chairman remains in custody.
