The families of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Paul Tawiah Quaye, have formally announced his passing, describing him as a distinguished public servant whose life was defined by honour, discipline, and dedication to national service.

In a statement issued by the Head and Elders of the Nii Korle Kulo Family of Asere Dzorshie and the Nii Ayikwei Sewuhu Family of Ahumka Atukpai, the families said the former police chief passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the 37 Military Hospital after a period of illness.

IGP (Rtd) Quaye served as Inspector-General of Police from 2009 to 2013, a period during which he rose to the highest rank in the Ghana Police Service and earned recognition for his leadership, discipline, and commitment to national security.

According to the families, his tenure was defined by “unyielding honour, integrity, and dedication,” leaving behind what they described as an indelible legacy in law enforcement and public service.

“He rose to the highest office within the Ghana Police Service, where his leadership, discipline, and patriotism left an indelible mark on law enforcement and national security. His lifelong commitment to service and humanity remains a cherished legacy,” the statement said.

The families indicated that arrangements for funeral and burial rites are currently being finalised, with details to be communicated to the public in due course.

They also appealed for prayers, support, and privacy as they mourn the loss of their loved one.

“May the gentle soul of IGP (Retired) Paul Tawiah Quaye rest in perfect peace with the Lord,” the statement added.
