Some aggrieved New Patriotic Party (NPP) members from the Ablekuma North, Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro and Weija Gbawe constituencies are meeting with party leadership at the NPP’s national headquarters over the alleged removal of their names from the electoral roll ahead of the constituency executive elections scheduled for Saturday July 11.
The meeting comes on the back of an injunction granted by the Accra High Court, which halted the elections in the three constituencies following disputes over the voter register.
The affected members accuse some constituency executives of deliberately deleting the names of individuals perceived to support rival candidates in a bid to influence the outcome of the polls.
Speaking to Citi News, one of the petitioners, Mohammed Alabira, said attempts to resolve the matter through internal party channels proved unsuccessful, prompting them to seek legal redress.
According to him, the aggrieved members are demanding the reinstatement of all names they believe were wrongfully removed from the electoral roll before any elections are held.
“We don’t have a problem with anybody. We are only asking for an explanation, but none was given to us. That is why we had to stop the election and ask that the names be restored to the register.
“If the right thing is not done and all concerns are not addressed, we will not be willing to allow the voting to go ahead,” he said.
