The National Service Secretariat says it is currently undertaking a validation process, assuring that service personnel will receive their allowances right after the exercise.
The Secretariat expressed concerns, saying service personnel had not received their allowances yet because some personnel had delayed in completing the process.
All National Service personnel have been directed to visit their portals and validate their data for the payment of their monthly allowances.
Speaking to Citi News, the Acting Head of Corporate Affairs, Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, shared details on some validation challenges and urged those yet to undergo the process to do so immediately.
“For some of them, their E-zwich numbers are wrong, and those numbers are not generated by us. The service personnel are supposed to upload their NSS numbers, names, and the E-zwich numbers. And I can tell you that some of them have wrong E-zwich numbers. We realized that a lot don’t have their E-zwich number correctly inputted. And what it meant was that if we go any ahead to make payment, just about 25% of them will be given their allowances.
Others had issues with their names which did not even match with the names on the Ezwich cards, but these names were given to us by the various institutions before we uploaded and gave them the NSS numbers. So these things are not our fault. That is why we asked them to go and do the validation. As I speak to you now, so many of them have done the validation. And we will be able to pay the allowances”.
Mr. Entsiwah Junior further stated that the service personnel should expect the payment of their allowances immediately after the validation process ends.
“I did indicate that we actually started the process to even pay them from Tuesday when we realized that all these challenges were being encountered and that is why on Wednesday quickly we asked them to do what we told them through a press release. If we had not done that and gone ahead to pay them only a few of them would have received the allowance and I am sure you the media would have given us a backlash that we paid the allowances and so many of them have not received it so now we thought that it is better we ask them to correct all these errors and be able to pay them.
We are ready to make the payment, but as I said, we have to make sure that at least the greatest number of them would have been able to do the validation. We have given up until today if by the close of today, we haven’t done that, and we decide to do the payment by tomorrow then so be it they will be left out, but we hope that by the close of today, the majority will do the validation so we can make the payment”.
