The Greater Accra Regional Minister Designate, Titus Glover, has issued a directive halting all filling activities at the Weija and Dansoman Ramsar sites.
During a visit to the sites, the Minister Designate emphasised that this directive is part of efforts to investigate encroachment levels at the sites.
He underscored the government’s commitment to preventing potential disasters, such as flooding, by taking decisive action against ongoing activities.
Addressing the media, Regional Minister Designate Titus Glover indicated that the decision aims to safeguard the long-term sustainability of these wetlands.
“We all saw the recklessness and abuse of the way some individuals are lining their pockets, just see all these nuisance. So for me, it is a matter of strategy, doing the listening and then we are able to put our heads together to sanitise the mess.
“No filling should go on and I have told them and we will arrange for the assembly to come and erect some notices around and all those who are involved, we will look for them and ensure that the right things are done.”
The Regional Minister designate also issued a stern warning to individuals purportedly involved in the sale of lands within Ramsar sites, including Sakumono, Tema, and Adjei Kojo.
