The Assemblies of God Church has clarified its relationship with a bedridden individual, Apostle James Tetteh Nartey.
Reports had surfaced about Apostle Nartey, who has been battling prostate issues since 2016, seeking public financial aid for his treatment.
On May 20, the General Council of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, issued a statement signed by the General Secretary, Rev. Ernest Birikorang expressing concern over the negative impact of the reports on the Church’s reputation and clarified that the Church does not confer the title ‘Apostle’ on its ministers.
“The attention of the leadership of Assemblies of God, Ghana, has been drawn to a story by Joy News on one Apostle James Tettch Nartey, a supposed man of God who is bedridden. The story has been shared on social media and has received various responses. Some of these responses have attacked the church and labelled its leadership as irresponsible.
“Assemblies of God, Ghana, hereby states emphatically, that the said Apostle James Tetteh Nartey is not a Pastor of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Indeed, Assemblies of God Ghana does not use the title ‘Apostle’ for its ministers.”
Assemblies of God Church explained that despite the Apostle not being a member of the church, some members of the Church have been supporting him on the basis of “Christian brotherliness.
“In spite of the fact that the Apostle is neither a member nor a pastor of Assemblies of God, some of our churches have been supporting him on the basis of Christian brotherliness. We do not find it necessary to put out the detailed facts of these gestures in the public domain.”
