Nana Akua Maafo-Dosoo, the CEO of LB Group (Listening Bureau Group), announced that their subsidiary, Building.com Ltd, is poised to lead the dialogue on eco-friendly buildings and green housing—a sector that remains largely untapped.
As a distinguished figure in the real estate industry, she made these remarks during an interaction with journalists at the Appeatse Reconstruction Project Commissioning. The event marked the handover of more than 120 eco-friendly housing units to individuals impacted by the tragic incident of January 2022.
The esteemed real estate entrepreneur emphasized the critical need for green housing initiatives and sustainable building techniques in response to the escalating threat of global warming.
“We aim to be the market leaders in green housing,” stated Akua Maafo-Dosoo. “Our goal is to construct more sustainable buildings across Africa, starting with Ghana. Having been involved in traditional construction projects, we now aspire to pioneer eco-friendly initiatives and establish ourselves as the market leaders.”
She encouraged other industry players to embrace this shift, citing the clear benefits of sustainable construction. “This approach will also enhance our reliance on locally manufactured products,” she added.
She highlighted the urgency of green building due to the tangible impacts of global warming, including high temperatures and rising tides. “Research shows that the construction industry significantly contributes to emissions, exacerbating the depletion of the ozone layer and directly correlating with global warming.”
Citing the 2018 United Nations Environment Programme research, she noted that the construction and building sector is the largest emitter of greenhouse gasses globally, responsible for 37% of emissions. The production and use of materials such as aluminum, steel, and cement have particularly high carbon footprints.
Additionally, a 2011 World Bank report indicated that Ghana’s construction sector accounts for over 15% of the country’s CO2 emissions, encompassing residential, public, and commercial construction.
She concluded that Building.com Limited’s commitment to green housing was a key factor in its selection for the Appeatse project.
“With our vision to house Africa, we were fortunate to be contracted for this housing project to support those who have endured a tragic situation and needed assistance from state institutions,” “Today, we stand here having provided eco-friendly homes. This is the future. We urge all state institutions in Ghana and across Africa, along with individuals and corporations, to embrace this vision. Let’s house Africa. Let’s go green. Let’s build eco-friendly homes.”
