The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the attack on Suhum Government Hospital staff over alleged medical negligence.
This comes after some individuals believed to be friends of a deceased miner attacked staff of the Suhum Government Hospital over alleged medical negligence while destroying properties.
The incident which reportedly took place at the hospital’s emergency ward on Wednesday, June 26, saw some health professionals physically assaulted with sliding windows.
They [Friends] questioned why the hospital failed to refer him to the Eastern Regional Hospital for further treatment, hence the attack.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased miner whose friends attacked the staff have rendered an unqualified apology to the staff and management of the hospital and also promised to settle for the items destroyed.
However, GMA, in a statement dated Friday, June 28, expressed disappointment at the Ghana Police Service for no arrest even though the incident occurred in their presence and some nurses were injured.
GMA condemned the attack and called on the Police to apprehend the perpetrators for appropriate justice for the victims.
The Association also urged the Municipal Chief Executive and authorities in the community to intervene for the necessary action to be taken.
