Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, has expressed his admiration for Ghanaian workers’ resolve to strike in response to the proposed 60 per cent sale of four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The bid by Rock City Hotel to acquire a 60 percent stake in the SSNIT hotels has been withdrawn.
Organised Labour has issued a warning and is prepared to strike on Monday, July 15, if SSNIT goes ahead with the plan to sell the hotels to Rock City Hotel, which is owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.
In a conversation with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, Mr Ablakwa suggested that the workers’ actions demonstrate their readiness to take control if the government disregards their concerns.
The MP for North Tongu observed that this was a defining moment and expressed his hope that the President would ends the state capture.
“Tonight is a clear manifestation that when the government fails to listen to the people, the people will one day declare that enough is enough. If you won’t listen to us, we will bring the battle to you. We will declare industrial action that can shut down the country.”
“…We must celebrate and salute Ghanaian workers today who are declaring that they ultimately have the power and if their president would not listen, they will force him to listen. So, this is a watershed moment and I hope that the president will end the state capture,” he stated.
