Political parties in Ghana have pledged their commitment to peaceful campaign ahead of the December polls.
They have committed to embark on campaigns devoid of personal attacks, name calling, insults, personality attacks and other indecent campaign practices.
The parties included the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Liberal Party of Ghana, and the All Peoples Congress (APC).
The others were the Great Consolidated Popular Party, People’s National Convention (PNC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Ghana Freedom Party and the Convention Peoples Party (CPP).
This commitment was made known in a statement released by the National Peace Council on Saturday July 20, 2024.
“We, being very determined to avoid a situation in which the elections could degenerate into violence and therefore draw our beloved nation into the throes of disruption and destruction as has been witnessed in a number of other African countries, WE DO HEREBY COMMIT TO PEACEFUL CAMPAIGN DEVOID OF PERSONAL ATTACKS, NAME CALLING, INSULTS, PERSONALITY ATTACKS AND OTHER INDECENT CAMPAIGN PRACTICES.”
“That we hereby commit ourselves and supporters to a peaceful campaign towards the general elections in December 2024. That we will campaign focusing on our promises of planned programmes and projects for the people of Ghana for which they should elect us rather than verbal abuse, insults and attacks of other political parties and incitement of our followers to act in any negative manner.”
“That we are committed to the use of legal processes and laws to deal with unlawful acts and actions by our members prior and political opponents before, during and after the elections,” it stated.
