Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch), has voiced skepticism about the likelihood of a review of the current Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy by the two primary political parties.
This comes in the wake of commitments from the flagbearers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) to uphold, reassess, and enhance the execution of the FSHS policy and address its related issues.
During his appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM on Wednesday, Mr Asare indicated that his interactions with the manifesto committees of both parties support his claim.
“Unfortunately, I don’t see any other parties doing any review, having engaged the manifesto committees of the major parties. I don’t see any review happening in the next 4 years. They are going to maintain it in the current form…I don’t see that happening from our engagement with the NPP manifesto committee and also the NDC committee”
“So, within that context I see the only way out to be government increasing its own expenditure to education beyond the current levels. If you look at the expenditure trend, we are still not spending enough on education when it comes to our commitment,” he stated.
