Two persons who fought over electricity bills, resulting in bodily injuries, have been put before an Accra Circuit Court and charged with causing harm.
Beatrice Abbey, a 26-year old receptionist, and Victor Coffie, a 32-year-old site engineer, have pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku granted them bail in the sum of GH¢8,000.00 each with a surety, to reappear on May 8.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said Beatrice is a tenant of Grace Sarpong, an aunt to Coffie.
On February 19, at about 8:00 pm, Coffie visited his aunt at a place known as Methodist at Nungua, and chanced on his aunt and Beatrice arguing over the electricity bill.
Coffie confronted Beatrice but unknown to Coffie, Beatrice who was armed with an empty Coca-Cola bottle which she used to hit Coffie’s forehead breaking the bottle in the process.
The Prosecution said Coffie on seeing blood oozing from the cut rushed towards Beatrice in an attempt to take the broken bottle from her.
According to prosecution, Beatrice run into her room and Coffie followed her and succeeded in retrieving the broken bottle.
Coffie then used it to cut Beatrice’s wrist, from which she bled profusely.
Prosecution said Beatrice and Coffie rushed to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service to lodge a complaint.
The two accused were issued with Police Medical Report Forms to seek medical attention and were subsequently charged.
