The New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency elections in the Bimbilla constituency in the Northern Region took place on Thursday the 19th of April 2018.
The elections saw a number of the incumbents losing their positions.
The incumbent constituency Chairman, N. Nabiya Sayibu, was defeated by Bawa Alidu, a former NPP constituency secretary for the area.
Bawa Alidu polled 349 votes to beat Nabiya Sayibu, who also had 332 votes.
The Constituency Secretary’s position was the keenly contested for with five contestants.
The incumbent secretary, Shani Stanton, did not contest, and one Tiba Amos won the slot. He had 185 votes beating his closest rival Mohammed Abdul Karim, who had 165 votes.
The other position which saw an old executive losing was the Deputy Organiser position. The former Deputy Organiser, who this time contested for the organizer position, Mohammed Abubakar Sadick Kwakwa, lost to one Bajiba Bananas, who polled 279 votes against 208.
The women organiser position was won by an incumbent, Madam Florence Abdulai Fati. She polled 358 votes to beat her only contender, Madam Adofedin Linda, who also had 326 votes.
The newly elected chairman, Bawa Alidu called for unity in the party saying without it, the party cannot do anything. He pledged to work hard to bring everyone on-board to consolidate the fortunes of the NPP in the constituency.
The regional representatives who came from the regional level to supervise the elections cautioned the newly elected executives to maintain unity in the party and not to be divided by the Bimbilla chieftaincy issues.
