The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service will commence a nationwide vaccination exercise from tomorrow [Monday].
The exercise will run until Sunday and is being undertaken as part of the Africa Vaccination Week and Child Health Promotion Week.

“This time around we are looking at infants, and we are also looking at adults. Over the years some education has gone on, and people know what to do when it comes to vaccination, but we are using this week to educate and inform about immunization and it importation in regard to child vaccination,” he said.
He stated that even though this vaccination is mainly for children it is equally open for adults to be vaccinated against diseases such as Hepatitis B.
The Ministry of Health in 2016 introduced the MenAfricVac-1 vaccine into the country’s immunization programme to help combat the outbreak of meningitis.
Dr. Yaw Ofori Yeboah, Deputy Director, Public Health, at the Volta Regional Health Directorate, said at the time that the MenAfricVac-1 would be the 13th vaccine to be made available to children throughout the country to protect them against a specific subgroup of meningitis – the Sero-group A.
According to the GHS, Ghana ranks high on the list of African countries with a percentage of 90 and above in vaccinations.
