The Ga Traditional Council has asked the public to be wary of persons who present themselves as members of a task-force enforcing the ban on drumming and noise-making.
According to the Council, persons who have been included in the task-force have been issued special ID cards with unique numbers identifying them as genuine members of the outfit.
The Spokesperson of the Council, Numo Blafo III, called on the public to request for the cards of persons who introduce themselves as members of the task force.
He also advised the public to report anyone who fails to produce the ID card to the Council for them to be dealt with.
“They [task force members] will be having ID cards with numbers on them which will be unique to the holder. So if someone comes to your house saying they are a member of the taskforce ensuring compliance, demand the ID card and when you are still not sure, there are certain numbers that we’ve put out there that we’ve put out there so that people can call.”
Numo Blafo III stated that he could not categorically say how many people would be part of the task-force as it would include people from different bodies including the police service.
He, however, urged the public to respect the ban that had been put in place to ensure that there are no unfortunate incidents during the period.
“I can’t give a specific figure because it will be members of the traditional council, the staff of the AMA and the police too to assist us. All we are saying is that we are entreating everyone just to comply so that we will avoid these kinds of conflicts and tension during this period.”
Every year in May, the Ga Traditional Council, places a ban on drumming and noise making to enable them to observe certain rites leading to the commemoration of the annual Homowo Festival.
