The fourth edition of the Women’s Expo Ghana took place yesterday [Friday] at the Alliance Française compound to exhibit products meant for the use of women or manufactured by women.
The expo is the go-to platform for women who want to shop, find new products and service for their professional, personal and family needs and also acquire new knowledge about brands in order to expand their network.
The expo is in partnership with Alliance Francaise and will run for two days, from April 27 to 28.
Speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the event, the Event Director for Women Expo Ghana, Nana Adwoa Kwegyir-Aggrey highlighted the aim of the expo.
“The aim is to create a very cost-effective and affordable platform for emerging business women; it is not every business that can participate in the huge fairs that are organised, so this is a way of creating an informal platform for people to showcase what they have,” she said.
“When you come here you experience things, by using samples of the products and the exhibitors also engage you rather than you just buying.”
Also outlining the challenges the expo has faced over the years, Nana Adwoa Kwegyir-Aggrey said there have been countless invitations sent to the Ministry of Trade and Industry to help lift it to a higher platform but there has been no positive feedback.
“It’s been challenging but we are growing, because this expo is different from the ones that are usually done. Most of the things are locally produced, there are health products, foods, security, ect. We have tried inviting officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and we never heard anything from them, we followed up but there was no feedback,” she said.
She was optimistic the collaborations of private businesses will help sustain the Women’s Expo.
“What we have decided to do is to engage private business people who are successful and we can mentor or they mentor people who are here. Because that is easier for us, because when they come and see what people are doing they get impressed,” she added.
“We just welcome partnerships, for the venue, for media support, and partnerships for publicity and promotion, and with that, we will be fine.”
Director of Alliance Française, Frederie Dart also applauded the organisers of the invent for creating such a platform to empower women.
