The Chief Technical Advisor in Charge of Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL), Akwasi Addae-Boahene is hopeful the Teacher Education Reforms will bear fruits.
He said the new policy is a demonstration of the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of Teacher Education.
[contextly_sidebar id=”HA0APyg98xKJFAtoGtrjZG8WMozwuaDw”]He expects the policy, introduced in 2017, to continue to promote improvement in the quality of teachers.
“Considered as the brightest moments in our country’s education history, the current teacher education reform holds the potential to completely change the face of teacher education by providing the right mix of skills and competencies to perform globally.”
In a speech read on his behalf at the Berekum College of Education graduation, Mr Addae-Boahene urged the students to embrace the reforms as they begin teaching.
He said as part of the reforms, B.Ed. Early Grade Education (K-P3), B.Ed. Primary Education (P4-P6) and B.Ed. Colleges of Education will offer JHS Education (JHS1-3) from October 2018 in line with International best practice.
The Principal of the Berekum College of Education, Prince Yeboah Marfo, charged graduands to be diligent.
“Teaching and learning can improve by showing love and care for the children you teach and sharing with them the knowledge, skill and good attitudes you have acquired with dedication,” he stressed.
He added that the college was on course to fulfil her vision of becoming an institution of excellence in Teacher Education.
“This is manifested in improved performance of our graduates over the last three years,” Mr Marfo stated.
“In 2014, no student obtained a first class; we got most of them in the second lower and third class divisions. Fortunately, the trend has changed since 2015 with more graduates obtaining second class upper and first class division.”
Mr Marfo also called on the government to reconstitute the Governing Councils of the College to facilitate smooth administration of the college and academic work.
“The absence of a Council is making the running of the College difficult and have the tendency to perpetuate illegalities in the College,” he added.
