The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has dismissed allegations of over voting as the reason for the postponement of constituency elections in the Sanerigu and Tamale constituencies over the weekend.
According to the party, the elections were rescheduled due to a mix up in the arrangement of the positions of the various candidates.
There were media reports of over voting during Sanerigu and Tamale North constituency elections leading to confusion at the centers, and a subsequent cancellation of the results.

“The constituency is voting today so I’m surprised how over voting will happen in a constituency that is voting today ” he said.
Kofi Adams clarified that the two constituencies had issues with their ballot papers which led to the postponement of the election.
“They are two constituencies that had issues with the printing of their ballots; the arrangement of candidates on the ballot or in some cases, aspirants who have voluntarily stepped down from contesting found their pictures on the ballot paper. So the elections in those constituencies were rescheduled and they are happening today. Sagnarigu is currently at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale having their conference, so there couldn’t have been over voting when we postponed that election,” Kofi Adams added.
NDC constituency elections held on Saturday
The NDC held its constituency elections last Saturday nationwide with the exception of 16 constituencies due to various petitions requiring settlement and postponement.
Mr. Adams noted that the elections were generally successful, an indication that the NDC is poised to wrestle power from the NPP in 2020.
