Taxi drivers and commuters in the Sunyani Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region are worried about the state of the only taxi rank in the city.
The Sunyani Taxi Rank only daily basis receives over three hundred cars, but it is in a deplorable state.
The taxi rank since its construction decades ago, has not since any major upgrade.
The potholes at the terminal collects water during the rains and the area becomes muddy.
The drivers, who work at the station said the rainy season is a nightmare for them as most commuters do not patronize the station.
A driver who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization said, “We have complained about the state of the station but nothing is being done. The Assembly is not helping matters; we are just waiting to see what they would do about the situation. Everyday, we pay Gh1:00 to the Assembly and 70 pesewas to the GPRTU.”
Commuters who use the terminal on daily basis are also worried about the state of the station.
Thomas Osei, who uses the station daily said complained about the years of neglect.
“So what is the Sunyani Municipal Assembly doing about the taxi rank? As a regional capital look at the state of the station; this does not befit our status” Mr. Osei noted.
Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr. Richard Yaw Amankwa, said all efforts to get the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to ensure that a contract signed under the previous NDC administration for the construction of the station is implemented is yet to yield any results.
Mr. Richard Yaw Amankwa noted that they are waiting to get a response from the Municipal Chief Executive of Sunyani, Dr. Evelyn Kumi Richardson.
Efforts to get the MCE to find out why the station is not getting the needed face-lift were not successful.
