Five people including three guards from the Juaso office of the Forestry Commission in the Ashanti Region, have died in a car accident.
The incident occurred after an STC bus collided head-on with a taxi cab which had overtaken another vehicle on the Kumasi-Accra highway.
Bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Steward Hospital morgue at Yawkwe.
Narrating circumstances leading to the accident, Konongo Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Ohene Boadi Bossman said: “The taxi coming from Juaso was going to Takoradi and the STC bus was also coming from Accra direction to Juaso, and the taxi driver overtook a car and unfortunately they collided and they all run into a ditch, and five passengers on board the taxi died instantly. They are at a mortuary.”
He said three of the deceased persons have been identified.
Gt. Accra, Ashanti top in accident cases since January
The Greater Accra Region led in the number of motor accidents that occurred in the country between January and June 2018.
The region has recorded more than 3,000 cases involving over 10,000 vehicles.
The Ashanti Region, which came second, recorded over 1,200 motor accident cases, which involved about 3,000 cars.
