Some concerned students of the University of Health and Allied Sciences [UHAS], in the Volta Region, are accusing authorities of the University of charging unapproved fees for the 2018/2019 academic year.
According to the aggrieved students, the governing council of the school has added new components to tuition fees and has also increased some charges of the fees without parliament’s approval.
They argue that the decision by the university will burden students and parents.
A letter sighted by Citi News confirmed that, the University has introduced an endowment fund of GHS100, and psychiatric affiliation fee of GHS231.00, and has also increased the accommodation fee from GHS1000.00 to GHS1320.00.
Others are Ethical Clearance fee from GHS50.00 to GHS100.00, feeding fee for fresher’s from GHS6.00 to GHS7.71 pesewas, and Vocational Training Fee from GHS400.00 to GHS462.000.
The Assistant Registrar in charge of Public Affairs, Mr. Anthony Asempah, speaking on the development, said no concerns have been brought to the attention of the University, adding that all fees of the university are provisional awaiting Parliament’s approval.
“Our fees as it stands now are provisional and subject to parliamentary approval. As and when parliament comes out with its decision, figures would be adjusted to reflect approval from parliament,” he said.
