As part of activities to mark the UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, Pepper Dem Ministries (PDM), a gender advocacy group, embarked on campaign to support efforts by the Ark Foundation to reopen and sustain the once functional Ark Shelter for victims of sexual and domestic violence.
In a #100for20 campaign which was intended to get 100 people to donate a minimum of 20ghc each, PDM raised Ghc6, 000 at the end of the period.
This was presented to the Foundation on Monday 17th December 2018, to the Executive Director of the Ark Foundation, Dr. Angela Dwamena Aboagye and her team.
The Ark Shelter, which was started in 1999, was run primarily on donor funding till it unfortunately had to be closed down in 2016. In the 17 years it was operational; it provided legal, psychological, physical, medical and financial assistance to victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Due to the dire need of a place to house and support the recovery of victims of domestic and sexual violence, the Foundation has launched a campaign to raise $75,000 to reopen the Shelter by January 2019.
This is the first of many steps by PDM to partner with agencies and organizations that work in the gender advocacy space to better the lot of women and girls.
