The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is accusing the government of being responsible for the current struggles of customers of gold dealership company, Menzgold.
The party, at a press conference in their series titled the ‘Moment of Truth’, addressed by its Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi on Wednesday, said the government cannot deny its role in the current circumstances surrounding the company’s inability to pay its numerous customers their investments.
“After carefully analyzing the facts of the Menzgold saga, we in the NDC have come to the inevitable conclusion that Government is responsible for the present woes of Menzgold customers. The Akufo-Addo government is complicit,” Sammy Gyamfi said.
He said the embattled CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1 within the 2-year period of the Akufo-Addo government enjoyed “full state honours” and received armed police escorts especially to public events.
Sammy Gyamfi insisted that the government’s acceptability of NAM1boosted his image and encouraged more people to invest in the company that is now tagged as a Ponzi or fraudulent scheme.
Citing examples, he said NAM1’s presence at the flagstaff house and photo opportunity with Nana Akufo-Addo all gave indications of his acceptance by the president and the government.
He stressed that the government must ensure that the customers who have lost their investments are paid back.
“Government cannot feign ignorance of the events that have led to where we are today in a desperate attempt to shirk its responsibility of ensuring that Menzgold customers are paid back their investments.”
He vowed that the NDC will continue to pressurize the government to ensure that customers are able to retrieve their investments.
“We wish to comfort the victims and assure them of our unwavering support towards the struggle to ensure that this complicit Akufo-Addo Government retrieves and restores their losses.”
“We shall not rest, we shall not relent, and we shall not falter in our resolve to pressurize the complicit Akufo-Addo government to restore this great loss to the teeming number of Ghanaians, some of whom we are informed are contemplating suicide as a result of this Menzgold scandal.”
