The committee set up by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa to investigate the recent happenings in Alavanyo Dzogbedze, has presented its report to the Regional Security Council.
The content of the report, which is yet to be made public, is expected to cover what transpired on January 13 leading to the killing of two young men and a man in his seventies.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Eup1UcwKpknjYAO1VMqyX0Q0fTDvEjqh”]Dr. Letsa assured the media that the report will be considered and its recommendations duly followed.
“We shall study the report. We have a representative from the Attorney General’s department on REGSEC, and he is also going to look through the report, and tomorrow REGSEC is going to meet here and digest the report and take decisions as to what should be done.
“We can assure all of you that nothing will be swept under the carpet. Anyone found culpable will be sanctioned appropriately. The recommendations that we can implement locally at the Regional level we will do so. The ones that we need national implementation we will get the report and recommendations with the appropriate quarters.”
Background
Three residents of Alavanyo Dzogbedze died, while six persons sustained injuries in a shootout a few weeks ago.
Residents claim marijuana farms may have been at the centre of the tensions between some residents and the police.
The Association of Alavanyo youth also alleged that the marijuana farms were owned by a police officer in Ashaiman.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa said the clash was because of an operation against persons dealing in arms and drugs.
A few days after the clash, DCOP Francis Doku was transferred to the national police headquarters to take up a new role as the Director for Special Duties.
He was transferred alongside a Staff Officer, DSP Maister Klay, who is to take charge of the Gambaga District Police Command.
Although no official reasons were assigned for the transfer, Citi News sources indicate that the transfer was about the tensions in Alavanyo.
