Following the historic commemoration of Ghana’s 62nd Independence Day anniversary parade in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, President Akufo-Addo has congratulated security agencies and pupils who participated in the program.
Describing their display on the day as “striking,” the president in a release said the special guest of honour for the occasion, Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger, was impressed about the performance of the pupils and security agencies.
For the first time in the country’s history, the national anniversary parade was held outside the national capital Accra.
Many Ghanaians have commended President Akufo-Addo for the decision to host the event in Tamale where over 20,000 Ghanaians gathered at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to participate in the event.
Besides the lighting of the perpetual flame by the president and march-past by students, security Services, Allied Agencies, there was also the cultural performance and practical military drills.
President Akufo-Addo in his message said;
This is a brief message to express my appreciation to the leadership, men and women of our nation’s security services and allied agencies for the excellent display and presentation they put up in Tamale, capital of the Northern Region, on 6th March, 2019, to commemorate the independence anniversary of our nation’s 62nd birthday.
The preparations and performance were, particularly, striking, especially as this was the first time in our country’s history that the celebration was held outside the capital city of Accra, and I was proud to have received the warm plaudits of the special guest of honour, His Excellency Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger, who was sitting beside me during the ceremony, on their performance. Together with our school children, they did all of us proud.
The Ghanaian people, once again, are grateful and appreciative of their outstanding display.
