The Nkawie Senior High/Technical School in the Ashanti region on Monday, May 27, 2019, hosted a delegation from the National Union of Ghana Students’ (NUGS) and the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG).
The joint delegation from NUGS and USAG visited the school to observe the state of the school and also to learn about the challenges and perspective of students taking the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The delegation met the headmaster, teachers and students of Nkawie SHS.
NUGS was particularly interested in discussing the challenges of the school.
The headmaster, students and teachers expressed their satisfaction with the systems in place in their school.
However, it emerged the school did not have an adequate number of computers for academic work, a situation, the students and teachers said was hindering ICT education.
Another major challenge is the infrastructure deficit in the school.
The headmaster in an impassioned manner stated that the school currently has an unfinished 21 unit classroom block which needs immediate completion.
The boys’ dormitory in the school is also in a deplorable state leading to great discomfort among the students.
Thus, NUGS calls on Government, old students and well-wishers to come to their aid in renovating the facility.
Final year students sitting the WASSCE were optimistic in their outlook and expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.
The NUGS President, Mr. Tinkaro Asare Osei and USAG President, Kingsley Akowuah Sarpong who are alumina of the school encouraged the students to take their studies seriously.
NUGS leaders pledged to advocate for the expedited resolution to the infrastructural challenges by calling on stakeholder agencies.
