The Chief Executive of Citi FM/Citi TV, Samuel Atta-Mensah has charged the 2019 graduating class of Ashesi University to be the game changers that they were trained to be.
The University held its 15th graduation ceremony today [Saturday] at its Brekusu campus.
In all 168 students graduated with Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Delivering the Commencement Speech for the Class of 2019, Samuel Atta Mensah charged the students to take up the job of rebuilding the country.
“I pray you don’t come out of this bastion of excellence only to join the polarized binary thinking African societies where we have created thinking opinion camps that are literally opposed to each other in the name of political parties.”
“Development has become a zero-sum game for these actors who believe that Party A’s successes should necessarily result in Party B’s failure,” he said.
Meanwhile, the President of Ashesi University, Dr. Patrick Awuah has bemoaned the negativity of corruption on social development.
He questioned why the Ghanaian society does not seem as adverse to corruption as it is to violence, especially in electoral activity.
“The overwhelming desire of Ghanaian citizens for peace in our country speaks of profound collective wisdom that gives me hope for this country. On the other hand, however, there doesn’t appear to be the same strength of conviction when it comes to the issues of corruption as there is to violence.”
Dr. Awuah said it appears “there is no collective understanding that corruption especially the looting of public monies is fundamentally a violent act against citizens.”
He said more roads, hospitals, schools, water and sanitation systems could be built “if more of the public money was used for the public good.”
