The Moslem Youth in Agogo Zongo in the Ashanti Region have justified their decision to reject a donation from the Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North Constituency, Andy Appiah Kubi for their Ramadan fast.
In a video that went viral, the youth were seen returning bags of rice and sugar they received from the MP.
Leader of the youth, Hamidu Mohammed explained that promises by Appiah Kubi to fix their deteriorating roads and rebuild their classroom blocks have not been fulfilled.
He said that the money used in buying the food items could have been used in developmental projects.
“He came with a contractor and gave us two weeks that the works would begin, but we haven’t seen anything. If he knows he is not going to fix the roads why come and give us a date. That is why we are returning the food items. Why would they make promises that they will develop the Zongos but rather give us sugar and rice,” he said.
The youth on Saturday rejected items presented to them as a donation by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Andy Appiah Kubi for their Ramadan fast.
The donation which included bags of rice, sugar and cartons of milk was outrightly rejected by the youth in protest against what they said was the many failed promises of their MP.
The youth did not accord the District Chief Executive, Mr. Francis Oti Boateng the expected courtesies when he came to the community to present the items on behalf of the MP ahead of the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
