As the War Against Indiscipline continues 50 drivers more, some of whom made U-turns at unapproved spots and drove on the shoulders of the Tema bound section of the Accra – Tema motorway have been arrested.
Thursday’s arrest follows Citi TV’s War Against Indiscipline (WAI) campaign.
The drivers including two expatriates, bankers and law enforcement officers will be arraigned today, Friday.
Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman who was with a team of officers from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate of the police who made the arrests reported that some of the drivers thought their arrests were baseless.
Public Relations Officer of the Directorate, ASP Simon Tinkunu spoke about the operation.
“The number confirmed so far is a little about 50. We did a follow up on the Motorway and we apprehended people for driving on the shoulders of the road the last time and we recorded same. Some were also doing the unlawful U-turn. At a particular spot, we realized that people were ignoring the markings on the road especially at the Community 18 Junction. Just like we did the other time, we will process them for court.”
The campaign against indiscipline being championed by Citi FM and Citi TV has yielded positive results as more drivers have arrested for breaking road laws.
Some have already been arraigned and fined between GHc600 and GHc800 to deter other drivers from engaging in indisciplined acts.
The War Against Indiscipline campaign by Citi FM/Citi TV is also aimed at putting pressure duty bearers to ensure discipline on roads.
#WAI, since it started, has charged citizens to be responsible while reporting other irresponsible drivers by filming them in a name and shame approach.
