The daily commute of residents around Shama in the Western Region was disrupted after taxi drivers in the area embarked on a demonstration exercise on Tuesday to protest the poor state of their road.
The demonstrators blocked the main Shama Junction road that leads into the Shama town with burning tyres.
They were frustrated over the neglect of their town’s development.
“The road over here in the district is very appalling,” one resident said but admitted that it had affected his work output for the day as the residents did not expect blocked roads.
“I was given a lift but we came to meet this road blocked and tyres being burnt here. I am a worker at the district assembly and I have to work all the way from here to the district otherwise there wouldn’t be any work today.”
Another woman going to work complained of the same disruptions to Citi News.
According to her, the roadblock only came into play when it appeared some drivers were not supporting the protest.
“They realized that some other drivers were working on the road and for that matter, they became annoyed and started burning tyres on the road,” she complained further.
