Some eight members of the National Democratic Congress have picked up nomination forms to contest in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Ketu South Constituency to replace incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Franklin Fiavi Fiifi Kwetey.
The eight includes former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie-Ahiaglo.
Fifi Kwetey did not pick a nomination form at the close of the exercise last Friday.
The incumbent MP, Fifi Kwetey joined Parliament in 2012 with a promise to run twice for Parliament on the NDC ticket.
It is however not clear if the promise of a two-term-run is the only reason for Mr Kwetey’s failure to pick nomination forms to contest the forthcoming primaries.
The seven others who seek to represent the people of the Ketu South Constituency include Mr. Foga Nukunu, Mr. Joseph Nyavi, Mr Nicholas Worclachie, Mrs. Caroline Kudah-Parker, Mr. Johnson Kofi Kporha, Mr. Godson Bill Ocloo and Mr. Sylvester Kafui Nyasorgbor.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie popularly known as Dzifa Gomashie is a Queen in charge of protocol in the Aflao Traditional Area, a veteran Actress, TV Producer, Writer, Poet, Theatre Producer and Entrepreneur.
Dzifa Gomashie holds an MPhil in African Studies from the Institute of African Studies (2005-2008), a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2000-2003) with First Class Honours, School of Performing Arts and a Diploma (1994-1998) in Theatre Arts from the School of Performing Arts.
Madam Gomashie told Citi News her desire to contest is “as a result of her commitment towards the development of the constituency and to also help the party grow from the grassroots level to National”.
She also indicated that her possible election to Parliament will also help increase the ratio of women to men in Ghana’s Parliament.
The Ketu South constituency lies on the borderline between Ghana and Togo and is one of the largest constituencies in Ghana.
It is also a stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
The NDC’s parliamentary primaries have been scheduled to take place on 24th August 2019.
